Lonnie Bedwell recently hit the road to connect with athletes and veterans, sharing the lessons he’s learned since losing his sight in a hunting accident and going on to kayak rapids, climb peaks, and ski to the South Pole. His straightforward message of resilience and possibility resonated at every stop.
At Indiana University, Lonnie met with the IU Football and Men’s and Women’s basketball teams (much thanks to Pete Yonkman, CEO of Cook Medical, and Blueline Media for the invitation). He took questions from players eager to learn how he adapts to life without sight, then laced up his boots for some fun in an impromptu game of H-O-R-S-E with Tayton Conerway and Lamar Wilkerson.
A couple of days earlier, Lonnie spoke at the Ann Arbor VA Hospital (gratitude to Richard Alden and the event organizers for bringing him in). Before a room full of veterans, he walked them through the mindset that carried him from a life-changing injury to some of the world’s most daunting challenges, leaving many inspired by his honesty and unwavering optimism.
