Mt. Vinson Recap

Extreme adventure athlete Lonnie Bedwell has achieved even more extraordinary milestones in his quest to climb the highest peaks on all seven continents.
On November 27, 2024, Lonnie and his Sightless Summits teammate, Bryan Hill, arrived in Antarctica, traveling from Punta Arenas, Chile. Their destination was the Ellsworth Mountains, where they successfully climbed Mount Vinson, the continent’s highest peak, on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. After a 6 1/2-hour trek, Lonnie and Bryan reached the summit under perfect “blue bird day” conditions, with light winds and clear skies. The team reported that Lonnie “crushed it!” Following their achievement, they returned to base camp to prepare for the next phase of their journey.
From base camp, Lonnie and Bryan flew to Union Glacier and began the final leg of their adventure: skiing the last degree to the South Pole. On December 9, 2024, they set off from the polar plateau, roughly 70 miles from their destination. Pulling heavy sleds across the icy expanse, they completed the grueling six-day expedition and triumphantly reached the South Pole on December 15, 2024.

Lonnie returned home to Dugger, Indiana, on December 22, 2024, just in time for the holidays. We’ll post more about this amazing adventure soon.
